Cleansers on Rotation

          6 great wash-off cleansers

During my time beavering away in this far corner of the internet, I seem to have grown much affection for the humble cleanser  - wash-off cleansers that is! And have accumulated quite a few since discovering the importance for double-cleansing for the removal of SPF that are featured in many products these days and also makeup which have become far more long-wearing than they used to be. I love having them in a row so I can pick and choose which one I'm going to use for the evening or for that quick freshen-up in the mornings. These ones I'll be sharing with you today are the ones I gravitate towards the most for the removal of make-up or for assisting for that double-cleanse experience.

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

I'm still clinging on to that last remnants of this as I don't want to say goodbye to this very luxurious formula. The scent is incredibly relaxing and the balm texture is just  heavenly! I just apply and allow it to melt my makeup before wiping it off with a damp cloth. Afterwards, my skin always feel like I've had the ultimate spa experience and looks so much clearer and feels so much softer and hydrated. This is perfect for mature skins like mine (although it can be used for any skin type) as it contains so much goodness for tackling common issues that comes with ageing such as dehydration, open pores and dullness. It includes: Moringa Seed Extract, Wild Seed Fennel, Vitamin E which deep clean the skin and helps to reduce the look of pores, and Orange, Neroli, Mandarin, Jasmine, Cedarwood and Rose have also been provided to help calm, recondition and rehydrate the skin. For very dry skin, you can use this as an overnight mask, which I have done during the Winter period.

The hype surrounding this is with good reason but it does come with a high price tag which is a bit of a stinger I know! So, to get around this, I plan to only ever purchase this as part of their gift sets or whenever its on offer.

2 great affordable cleansing oils

The Oils...

Una Brennan Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil 200ml £10.99

If you love the smell of oranges, then you are going to love this! This has fast become one of my favourite cleansers from the high street. I do love good a offer and soon snapped this up when it was on promotion in Boots for around £7.99.

This gorgeously scented cleansing oil is infused with Vitamin C, Olive, Grapeseed and Rosehip oils to help break down any makeup, dirt and grime and to also help leave the skin with that nice healthy glow. I love how once it becomes in contact with water, it turns into this lovely lightweight milky texture which helps give me that even more fresher feel! The cleansing oil just melts away my makeup with such ease including waterproof mascara, and with the assisted orangey scent which is just irresistible, helps takes the chore out of removing makeup. As this is a cleansing oil, I do have to ensure I use a separate cream cleanser afterwards to remove any remaining oil.

Primark Beauty Deep Cleanse Off Oil 150ml £2.00 - in store

This was purchased on a whim when I was looking for their elusive primer water that everyone raves about but doesn't seem to have returned back in stock. If you're after an unscented cleansing oil on a budget, then this one is a great one to try. I was pleasantly surprised how well this removed my makeup, including stubborn waterproof mascaras. I reach for this when I'm feeling really lazy as the pump dispenser ensures a quicker application. Again, after use, this also needs a separate cleanser in a form of a cream or a gel to help remove any of that remaining oil.

3 great cream wash-off cleansers

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Limited Edition  Jasmine & Osmanthus 150ml - part of a set.

This cleansing post couldn't possibly be put together without featuring one of my holy grails - Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish!  Apart from their iconic original, they have released a fair few limited editions that give a slight twist to their original formulation, and this was one of them  that came in a super size that I got during Winter as part of a set. The floral scent of this is much more subtle than the original.

This beautiful, rich creamy consistency pretty much does everything I could want from a cleanser as it's brilliant for removing traces of makeup including waterproof mascara, and any dirt and grime by using the muslin cloth supplied which also helps to exfoliate at the same time. Improvement in my complexion is achieved in a matter of days as my skin always looks so much smoother, brighter and clearer as any redness I have in my cheeks begins to subside quite quickly!  It also works brilliantly as a second cleanser if your really into your balms and oils for that first cleanse, and the refreshing scent makes this a winner for use in the mornings too!

Just like the Elemis Cleanser featured in my empties post, this was another one given to me by my mum who's quite old school when it comes to cleansing and isn't a massive fan of the wash-off cleansers. This is a 3 in 1 mousse/cream-like formula that I've really been loving for that deep-cleanse feel because it performs as cleanser, exfoliator whilst moisturising at the same time. It's formulated with that gloriously scented Neroli essential oil that Decleor are so known for, and also Papaya to help exfoliate as it cleanses. It begins it's life as a lightweight cream before transforming into a really lover lather texture that doesn't become too soapy when it comes into contact with water.  It's best used as a second cleanser which I've been really enjoying (although I don't use this near the eyes), to help assist for that double-cleanse experience. Another pricey formula, yes, but you certainly get your monies worth because it lasts forever as you only need a small amount.

Nivea Cleansing Cream Wash 150ml £ 3.59 - although has been know to be on offer for as little as

This is such a good budget cleanser! I never hear anyone talk about this one and feel it's so underrated! I tend to use this in the mornings for a quick freshen up or as a second cleanser after using balms and oils. I also find this to be also very effective for makeup removal and love how super soft my skin feels after using this as it's super gentle and doesn't leave it feeling stripped or dry. The cream feels really soft and creamy, its lovely! And once on the skin it feels almost like a moisturiser, which just encourages me to just keep on massaging.  I love it!

Are any of these your favourites? Which cleansers have you been enjoying lately?

  1. Everyone's talking about cleanse and polish right now! I need to pick up another bottle soon!

  2. I'm also really enjoying the Una Brennan Cleansing Oil, it smells incredible and leaves my skin so clean. But I'm living in Germany and can't just pick it up at the drugstore, so I have to buy it online, but it's worth the waiting time!

  3. These are all new to me. I like using an oil to remove my makeup. Great post! Http://

  4. I love the Liz Earle cleanse and polish. I finished my bottle a few months ago and I miss using it so much but Ive been trying to use up my other cleansers.
