Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner has a new sibling...Meet Unscented!

The new unscented version was created for those where scents play no part in their skincare routine. Despite its popularity and success as a beauty awards winner, some were unable to enjoy the original version due to irritation caused from the essential oils within the formula - not no more! The essential oils have now been removed so, now even the most sensitive of skins can enjoy.

Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner is a lovely, lightweight, watery formula that can be added to your existing routine for extra hydration.  It's formulated with a base of various botanical extracts to help balance the skin's pH and provide full nourishment to the skin. Skin appears glow-ier due to the higher moisture retention, and it's due to this result, it's used as part of a routine to achieve a 'glass skin' effect often seen in Asian skincare. It’s also really popular with users suffering from breakouts, often claiming the appearance of redness and spots had improved due to its anti-redness ingredients which includes Beta-Glucan and Centella Asiatica. Klairs also claim that the formula helps prolong hydration 20% more than other conventional toners containing hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan.

Key Ingredients:

  • Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Centella Asiatica Extract
  • Lipidure
  • Beta-Glucan

Ingredients: - Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract, Beta-Glucan, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Portulaca, Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Copper Tripeptide-1

How and When it is used:

It can be used in various ways after cleanser but before serums. Some use it as a traditional toner after cleansing to remove further dirt and impurities in preparation for further products. The toner can also be applied like an essence form by layering to achieve extra hydration. It can also be used as part of the 7-step Asian skincare routine where 7 layers are applied to achieve optimal hydration or as part of the 'glass skin' routine. However, you may only need to apply this amount of layers if you are very dry. The supple Preparation Toner can be applied either by patting onto the skin (my preferred method), swipe or pat using a cotton pad or Klairs Toner Mate 2 in 1 Cotton Pad before patting on further layers.

I use 3 drops and pat 2-3 layers onto the skin.

The Formula:

The bottle contains 180ml that will last a good few months. The formula, although looks like water, has a slightly thicker runny gel texture. Absorption is fast which makes layering easy and quick. Key ingredients include: Sodium Hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) for added hydration and plumpness, Centella Asiatica and Liquorice Extract to calm and soothe. Beta-glucan  - claims have been heard it boosts hydration levels, improves skin barrier function and calms redness. It can also improve wrinkles.

I never used the Original formula, so one assumes the unscented claim is taken from the removal of the essential oils. There is, however, still a very, very faint smell to this but would only be noticed if smelling the bottle.

The Results:

After each use, my skin is left hydrated and radiant. I have one side of the face that tends to be more troublesome than the other. It’s like the good Sister and bad Sister. Blotchiness appears from time to time resulting in requiring an extra layer of foundation or concealer. There hasn't been many products that have helped reduce this blotchiness. After about a month, my troublesome area looks well rested and clearer. It’s hard to believe how much of an impact something that just looks like water can give - I’m impressed!

Comparison between Unscented and Original:

The pretty purple label from the unscented version makes it easy to identify when purchasing. The clear formula combined with the Purple labelling gives it a very aesthetic and calm appeal. Like I mentioned earlier, I haven’t used the original version but I have heard it has a slightly oilier texture which drier skins may welcome. Oilier skins may prefer the Unscented version due to its watery feel. Due to its fast absorption, the unscented version also makes it a good choice for use in the mornings.
