Let Eucerin Look After Your Skin This Winter!

Eucerin AtoControl Skincare Review

I was absolutely over the moon when skincare brand Eucerin asked if I would like to try some of their products. With Winter fast approaching and living by the sea meant that my skin had often been a victim from the harsh elements it brings. The sharp sudden change in temperatures (leaving a toasty warm environment, to the freezing cold outdoor air) can play havoc with my skin. And also for my daughter who has in the past suffered some terrible eczema flare ups mainly during the Winter months (although at the moment was under control).

I thought it would be a great opportunity to discover a bit more about the brand and to see if there was anything we could slip into her existing regime. As you can imagine, being eczema prone can make product choices very difficult and limited to the point where you can only use one product to wash AND moisturise with, which for a 15 year old doesn't exactly make this the most glamourous way to enjoy skincare. So, it's no cutely packaged bath bombs and no highly scented products for her.

So, if you've not familiar with Eucerin, it's a brand we often turn to for those troublesome times when our skins need some TLC. Their range has expanded massively over the years which now covers everything from ageing, sun care and even oiliness! However, it's their treatment of targeting various severity of dry skin issues such as: cracked, irritant and eczema prone skin they are commonly known for.

My daughter's skin

Finding products when tackling Eczema can often be a difficult and challenging process and not forgetting a stressful one too, and that's even knowing which ingredient(s) is the cause. As in my daughter's case; ever since she was a baby, she always suffered mild eczema in the crooks of the elbows. But it wasn't until she started high school, the eczema suddenly become far worse, attacking the whole body (we now feel this increase could be stress-related) which for me as her mum was really upsetting to see.

We was so excited to try these products but at the same time very cautious. We introduced these gradually as I didn't want to upset her stable skin. The slightest change we would stop immediately! Here's how she got on.

AtoControl Range

She mainly used products from the AtoControl Range which is specifically aimed for dry, chapped and atopic skin issues. This formula contains over 50% natural oils including Omega, Evening Primrose and Grape Seed Oil, and also soothing Liquerice extract which helps to replenish and restore the skin's natural barrier and help it to become more resilient. With regular use, skin condition is noticeably improved and will help keep further dryness at bay. These products are free of preservatives, fragrances or colorants. They are also paraben free.

The AtoControl Bath & Shower Oil can be used in the bath for babies from the age of 3 months (although do use with care as it may be slippery) or for use in the shower for older children and adults. It helps to relieve any itchiness and also softens and protects the skin from any further dryness. When the oil comes into contact with water, the formula turns into a gentle, milky soapy substance to wash  which will make you feel far more fresher than those thick and heavy creams.

She absolutely loved this! For so long, all she could shower with was Dermol which was prescribed by our GP. Dermol can be purchased online, however, it's not cheap. It's very good and did the job but she was desperate for a change! Her skin feels really smooth and refreshed after showering but the main thing was she was able to finally use a soapy substance without suffering any irritation to her skin. This formula makes her feel alot cleaner as washing with creams can often make it feel rather heavy on the skin. She experienced no irritation.

Ingredients include: Glycerine Sonja Oil, Ricinus Communist Seed Oil, Laureth-4, MIPA Laureth Sulphate, Poloxamer 101, Laureth-9, Propylene Glycol, Aqua, BHT, Propyl Gallate.

This face cream is a beautiful lightweight formula that helps to relieve dry, sensitive and even itchy atopic skin, and is gentle enough to be used on babies (from 3 months).

She loved applying this before going to school. The mornings have been very cold lately and this brought the protection needed to prevent the cold elements attacking her skin, and also from the central heating whilst at school. Again, no irritation.

I have to admit. I stole this on a few occasions as it was just so wonderful to use when I had the dreaded cold which makes my skin so dry! The oil-in-water formula gave a really lovely silky texture, (ideal to use under makeup as well), and sunk into my skin nicely keeping my skin comfortable all day. Highly recommend to have on stand by for those dry moments or when you want to strip your skin of makeup and just lather this on. Wonderful!

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Vitis Vinfera Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis Oil, Caprylic/Capric TriGlceride, Cyclomethicone,Dimethicone,Pentaerythrtyl Tetraisostearate, Triisostearin, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-40 Stearate, Glycyrrhiza Inflata Root Extract, Ceramide 3, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, BHT, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Pirotone Olamine.

This really is for the daily care of dry, chapped and itchy skin. If you have normal skin and feel you just want something that bit richer too use, you may find this a little too much!

What can sometimes happen with dry skin, is the skin's barrier function can often become impaired which can result in the skin becoming more vulnerable to irritants and allergies as they come into contact. The richness from this emollient was expectedly heavier in texture compared to the face cream and coated the skin instantly on contact. This was extremely moisturisering and left a slightly tacky sheen appearance (not sticky) which was still visible after several hours of wear. Overtime, with regular use dryness is subsided and allows the skin to become much more resilient.

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Paraffinum, Liquidum, Vitis Vinfera Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis Oil, Octldodecanol, PEG-7 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Dimethicone, Glycyrrhira Inflatable Root Extract, Ceramide 3, Tocopherol, Ozokerite, Sorbitan Isostearate, Methoxy PEG-22/Dodecyl Glycol Copolymer, PEG-45/Dodecyl Glycol Copolymer, PEG-2 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Sulfates, BHT, 1,2- Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate

Another, skin saviour product that helps to tackle very dry and cracked skin caused by the weather, and for times when these are caused by sensitiveness like jewellery, soaps and cosmetics. It's a gentle non-irritating formula that helps to soothe and repair fast! Contains: Panthenol - A derivative of Vitamin B to Condition, Glycerin - to moisturise and Bisabolo - which comes form Chamomile to smooth the skin. This can even be used in sports to create a barrier against friction caused by clothing or skin rubbing together during a workout. This is so gentle, it can even be used on babies.

Ingredients: Paraffinum Liquidum, Cera Microcristallina, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Panthenol, Glycerin, Bisabolol

A smaller and lighter weight formula than the body lotion that intensely moisturises the skin whilst providing fast soothing relief. This handy tube size make this ideal for travelling or for popping in your bag for when those moments strike or for topping up throughout the day.

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethicone, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Triisostearin, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glceryl Stearate, PEG-40 Stearate, Glcyrrhiza Inflata Root Extract, ceramide 3, Decylene Glycol, Menthoxypropanediol, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Trisodium, EDTA, BHT, 1,2-Henanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Piroctone Olamine.

Disclaimer: Products were sent to me for review. These are my own opinions and we're not influenced by anyone or any company.

I plan on publishing a post at a later date sharing other products like: shampoo and other items that we use to keep her eczema under control.

Have you tried any products from Eucerin? What do use for tackling atopic skin issues?
